Roger J. SipplManaging Partner, Sippl Macdonald Ventures
Roger Sippl has over twenty years of senior operations and chief executive experience with technology companies. He was founder of Informix Software, Inc. in 1980. Under his direction, Informix pioneered SQL relational databases, 4GL application development tools, and OLTP database technology for the UNIX operating environment, personal computers and networks. He was the first chairman of the SQL Access Group, and served on the X/Open Board of Directors representing the software industry. Sippl also served on the UNIX International Executive Committee and is a founding board member of Uniforum, the first UNIX trade organization and show. Sippl was a co-founder and chairman of The Vantive Corporation serving on the board for nine years from 1990 until 1998. Vantive went public in 1995. He founded Visigenic Software in 1993, and helped pioneer distributed object computing in enterprises. Visigenic went public in 1996 and was acquired in 1998. During the nineties, Sippl invested privately in several other software companies, including Illustra (acquired by Informix) and Red Pepper (acquired by PeopleSoft). Sippl is now managing partner of Sippl Macdonald Ventures, together with his partner, Jackie Macdonald. He participates in board level, advisory and investment activities with over twenty high technology companies. Sippl Macdonald Ventures invested in private rounds of BroadVision (NASDAQ BVSN), Kiva (acquired by Netscape) and Critical Path (IPO March, 1999). Sippl is currently on the boards of Extempo Systems, Inc., SupportSoft, Inc., Haht Software and advisor to TimesTen , Inc., a main memory database company. He was also a shareholder of Cloudscape, Inc., an all java DBMS provider, acquired by Informix. Sippl holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley. Tom FurlongManaging Director, Granite VenturesBoard-member Tom Furlong has been a Managing Director of Granite Ventures since July of 2000. He joined Granite after serving as Vice President and General Counsel at Zhone Technologies, a communications equipment provider. Prior to Zhone, he was a partner with the law firm of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich, LLP, a leading Silicon Valley law firm, where he practiced corporate, securities and intellectual property law for 13 years counseling technology companies (including Adobe, Applied Signal, Ascend, Datapath, Network General, Silicon Spice, SynOptics, Tollbridge, Vantive and Visigenic), venture capitalists and investment bankers. Tom also serves on the Board of Directors for Biz360 and TuVox. Tom holds a B.A. in economics and an M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from the University of Chicago, and a J.D. from Northwestern University.
Patrick C. Lee Board-member Patrick Lee helps head up the software practice at JPMP and is involved with companies in both the infrastructure and applications market. He is on the Board of Directors of Celarix, Inc., Gridion, Inc., Tidal Software, Inc., Open Network Technologies, Peakstone Corporation, and Above All Software and he holds an observer seat on Pentasafe Security. Prior to joining JPMorgan Partners (JPMP), Patrick worked for Access Technology Partners L.P., a venture capital fund affiliated with Hambrecht & Quist which was assumed by Chase Capital Partners in 1999 (now JPMP). Prior to Access Technology Partners, Patrick worked for Hambrecht & Quist. Patrick holds an Honors Degree from Queen's University, Kingston, Canada and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, Cambridge, MA.
